There have been a few people asking about this but the simple answer is no, you do not have to wear a crash helmet while using your mobility scooter.
Mobility scooters are usually on 4 wheels, sometimes 3, they have a low speed and they are intended to be used to aid mobility and not for speed or other purposes so the use of a crash helmet is not necessary.
Though you might wish to wear some sort of helmet as your own personal choice and this wouldn’t be a bad idea at all.
While you should be quite safe while operating your mobility scooter, even something like a bicycle helmet might be just right, with them being lightweight, easy to put on and to remove and still allowing a full view.
If you feel better about wearing a lightweight helmet while operating your mobility scooter then definitely go with this, anything that keeps you safe and that you are prepared to do for your own safety is wise.
It is also worth keeping in mind that although you may be a very responsible user of mobility scooters, you never know how other people are going to act, from drivers and cyclists to pedestrians.
Everyone hopes that they are never involved in a collision, but if it occurs and you happen to be wearing a helmet it might save you from a head injury and even could save your life.
So if you feel that its the right thing for you to do then do go with that feeling and purchase a helmet suitable for use with your mobility scooter.
My name is Sharon and I want to know if I have to wear a helmet when out on my scooter. Are there road rules to say yes or no. Nobody seems to know. Could you please let me know.

I bought a motorcycle helmet from eBay do not care if I look stupid if I crash and or if somebody else runs into me I want to be safe than sorry A&E are used to seeing head injuries think it won’t be you think again use a sensible choice your brain or your life
A full face helmet can make you unaware of your surroundings and I think, especially if you’re on a road, you need all your wits and senses at 100%.
